Class 4 welcomed back Matt for further teaching of Martial Arts. The children spent the lesson recapping everything they had learned last year and impressed us all at how much that was! Well done Class 4!

The children have made a start to some artwork they will be creating relating to their topic on 'Why do Oceans Matter' where they will be looking into a range of things including pollution. Great start class 4.
SCIENCE LEARNING IN CLASS 4

CPR SMART PROGRAMME FOR SCHOOLS
This week, children in Years 5 and 6 learned how to perfom CPR and how to use a defibrillator. Mrs Dale and Miss Hempstead were trained by Jon at Essex & Herts Air Ambulance (EHAAT). EHAAT have launched a free "CPR Smart" programme to train teachers and students in schools across Essex and Hertfordshire. The evidence-based programme aims to improve cardiac arrest survival rates by equipping the next generation with life-saving CPR and defibrillator skills. The children were all really engaged and developed greater confidence in knowing what they could do to help in an emergency situation. Well done to you all!
GREEK DAY
Class 4 enjoyed Greek Day as part of their History topic. The children wore some amazing costumes and enjoyed food tasting, Olympic sports events and creating greek structures. A fab and fun day of learning for them all!
Class 4 Science
Class 4 are investigating air resistance in their science lesson. In groups, they worked together to test different size parachutes to see which ones worked best. They had to ensure their investigations were fair by making sure all the variables other than the size of the parachute remained the same
CLASS 4 SQUASH
Hurrah! The children are so pleased to have their squash lessons again! This week they learned about controlling the ball and how to use their raquet. It was a lot more tricky than it seemed!
ROLLERSKATING CLUB FOR CLASS 4
Class 4 were very excited to have their turn at rollerskating club. They particularly enjoyed the Limbo and playing corners. Remember - your child does not need their own skates to join in - we have plenty!

YEAR 5 ROAD SAFETY DAY
It was Comic Relief day today and the School Council decided on the events. The children were invited to have Crazy Hair or a Crazy Hat!
Harry Potter
Class 4 have used the text Harry Potter and the Philospher's Stone as the stimulus for their literacy lessons this term. Over the term they have designed their own broomsticks and used persuasive language to advertise them, written adverts for Hogwarts, written some character descriptions and even re-written the introduction to the text.
A real highlight of the unit was when the whole class researched the rules of Quidditch (to help write an explanation text) and then tested them out by playing Quidditch in the hall! The children were split into the 4 house teams and had to work with their team to score points whilst the seekers tried to catch the golden snitch.
Well done to Griffindor who won the Baynards Quidditch cup!
Science - light and shadows
Class 4 have been learning about light and shadows in their science lessons. This week they worked in groups to investigate how shadows change.
